Lash length is the quickest way to change your whole look. A few millimeters is the difference between "are those your lashes?" and full drama. Here's what the numbers mean, what each length looks like, and how to choose yours, whether you wear lash clusters, magnetic lashes or Lashies™.

Quick answer: what each lash length looks like

  • 8–10mm: short and natural. Ideal for inner corners and soft everyday definition.
  • 10–12mm: the everyday sweet spot. Visible lift and fullness that still reads natural.
  • 12–14mm: longer and fluttery. Noticeable lift with some drama.
  • 14–16mm: extra-long. Dramatic lift and maximum impact, usually saved for the outer corners or glam looks.
  • 17mm and up: full glam. Found in our boldest magnetic and Lashies™ styles.

How lash length is measured

Lash length is measured in millimeters along the fiber. Clusters and full lash bands mix fibers of different lengths, so lengths are usually given as a range:

  • Lash clusters come in length sets. Our Instant Lash Clusters™ are sold in 8–10mm, 10–12mm, 12–14mm and 14–16mm sets, so you can mix lengths across your eye.
  • Magnetic lashes and Lashies™ list the shortest-to-longest range on each product page. For example, Wifey Lash is 6–13mm and Bossy Lash is 11–19mm. The top number tells you how long the longest fibers get.

Width matters too. A short, narrow band like Cheeky Lash (14mm wide) only sits on the outer part of your eye, while a full band like Dolly Lash (34mm wide) runs the whole lash line.

Lash cluster lengths: 8–10mm to 14–16mm

Every cluster style comes in several length sets. Here's how the sets are described on our product pages, using Lady Clusters as the example:

8–10mm clusters

"Soft shorter lengths that create a natural flutter and brighten the inner corner." Use them at the inner corner of any map, or across the whole eye for the most natural look.

10–12mm clusters

"The perfect everyday lengths for a soft lifted look with effortless fullness." This is the safest starting point if you're new to clusters.

12–14mm clusters

"Longer fluttery lengths that add bold lift and eye-opening drama." Most of our lash maps use 12–14mm through the center of the eye.

14–16mm clusters

"Extra-long fluttery lengths that create dramatic lift, bold definition, and maximum impact." On styles like Savvy, Sultry, Jazzy and Cry Baby, the 14–16mm set is rated high intensity.

The style changes the effect as much as the length. Wifey is wispy, Savvy and Sultry are crisscrossed or flared, and Jazzy is bold and dense. A 12–14mm Jazzy looks fuller than a 12–14mm Wifey.

Want to try several lengths at once? Discovery sets like Lady Discovery include three lengths (10–14mm) and 30 clusters in one set.

Magnetic and Lashies™ lengths by look

Here's where our full-band styles top out, from the product pages:

Up to about 13mm: natural

Around 14–15mm: soft glam

Around 16–17mm: mid to full glam

18mm and up: maximum drama

  • Magnetic: Stormy (9–18mm, colored), Party (7–18.5mm, colored), Foxy (10–19mm), Sexy (12–19mm), Bossy (11–19mm, the largest style in our original collection)

How to choose your lash length

Start with the look you want

For "my lashes, but better," stay at 10–12mm, or at the low end of the ranges above. For a lifted cat eye, keep the inner corner short and save the longest lengths for the outer third. For a wide-eyed doll look, put your longest lengths in the center, over the pupil.

Match length to your eye shape

Our lash cluster map guide goes into detail. In short:

  • Hooded eyes: shorter lengths (10–13mm max) so lashes don't touch the lid, focused on the outer third.
  • Monolid eyes: medium lengths (12–14mm) with plenty of curl.
  • Round eyes: longest lengths (14–16mm) in the center, shorter corners.
  • Downturned eyes: 14–16mm on the outer third, angled up, to lift the corner.
  • Almond eyes: most lengths and maps work.

Consider eye size

Longer, wider lashes can overwhelm smaller eyes. If your eyes are on the smaller side, read our guide to the best lashes for small eyes.

Trim if a band is too long

Magnetic lashes and Lashies™ can be trimmed. Measure the lash against your eye first, then trim from the outer corner only. For magnetic lashes, cut just past the last magnet. Step-by-step: how to trim false eyelashes at home.

Frequently asked questions

Are 14mm lashes long?

14mm is on the longer side of everyday. In our cluster range, the 12–14mm set is described as "longer fluttery lengths" with bold lift, and 14–16mm is our extra-long set. Most lash maps use 14mm in the center or outer third rather than across the whole eye.

Are 15mm or 16mm lashes too long?

Not if you place them well. 14–16mm is our most dramatic cluster length, best on the outer corners for a cat eye or the center for a doll eye. On hooded eyes, longer lengths can touch the lid, so our map guide suggests 10–13mm max.

What length are natural-looking lashes?

For clusters, 8–10mm and 10–12mm. For full bands, look for styles that top out around 12–13mm, like Classy, Cozy, Edgy or Wifey magnetic lashes, or Airy, Lovely and Wispy Lashies™.

Do I need different lengths for one eye?

Usually, yes. Most cluster maps use shorter clusters at the inner corner and longer ones toward the center or outer corner. The Cluster Starter Kit and Discovery sets give you multiple lengths to map with.

What's the difference between 10mm and 12mm lashes?

Two millimeters is more visible than it sounds. In our 10–12mm cluster sets, the 12mm side gives more lift. It's still our everyday length, while 8–10mm is better for the inner corner or a barely-there look.
